Can you imagine your life with your dog if he or she was obedient? What a pleasant life that would be wouldn’t it?
You could walk around town without the fear of losing control of your dog if a distraction appeared. You could sit outside a cafe and enjoy a meal while your dog sits quietly. You could even have your dog unleashed and not worry about it running off.
These are just some of the luxuries that come with a dog trained in obedience. Obedience is the foundation which opens the door to endless possibilities but it takes patience and commitment.
What is obedience exactly? Obedience is achieved when a command is given and automatically complied with without thought. A dog is NOT obedient if he complies with some but not all commands given.
However, your dog cannot comply if they don’t understand what you want from them. Communication requires understanding a common language between two parties…in this case you and your dog. Your dog must learn a language first and it is then up to you to effectively execute a command and see to it that your dog complies without thought.
